I’d like to thank the BA 100 students for giving me the opportunity to speak to them this week.  I’ll be speaking a little about the basics of business research and demonstrating a few of our business databases.  Following the class, students are asked to complete the short research assignment.    The purpose of this assignment is to help you become more familiar with business research tools. The assignment offers practical, hands-on experience with the resources that were demonstrated in class.

I’ve had a number of questions in the last week that pertain to finding companies in a particular industry in another country.  I’ve found that Hoover’s Online is one of the best resources for this type of information.  The Hoover’s “Build a List” feature allows users to screen for companies with a variety of user-specified criteria.  This afternoon I created the  Using Hoover’s “Build a List” screencast to demonstrate the basics of this feature.  The screencast was created with Wink, a freeware tool for creating demonstrations and screencasts.

Beginning January 3, 2007, students will be able to place reservations for Learning Commons study rooms online. The online reservation system will make it more convenient for students to reserve group study rooms. Students can see which rooms are available via the web-based schedule, and then they can select a time to make a reservation. To use the online reservation service, simply visit the Group Study Room Reservations page.    The link to the Group Study Room Reservations page may also be found under the “Services” tab on the library home page, as indicated by the image below.
