Faculty/Staff Book Delivery Service

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

The staff for the Faculty/Staff Delivery Service are pleased to announce
this service is now available to all Faculty and Staff on the Athens
campus.  We have just started to run the service at full scale, so we want
to be sure everyone is aware of this service and what we do.

We deliver library materials daily, Monday through Friday, to a central
drop-off location in each building where we have enrolled faculty and
staff.  We also pick up materials for return.  We transport regularly
circulating materials from Alden, the Annex, Music & Dance, Intercampus
requests, OhioLINK requests and Interlibrary Loans.

Interested faculty and staff need to complete an online enrollment form
which can be found in the upper left hand corner at http://www.library.ohiou.edu/serv/faculty-delivery.html.  Participants
will find instructions on how to request a delivery on this page as well.

The business clusters are working on a research project that covers the U.S. health care system.  In addition to research the U.S., the clusters have to research the presidential candidates’ positions on health care, while also looking at the systems of France and the United Kingdom.  In addition to our databases, here are a few links that may be of some help in the project.

Database Alerts workshop next week

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

Would you like to streamline your information gathering in your field of research?  Many of Alden Library’s research databases now offer alert services.  Using these services, you can automatically be notified about new articles that meet criteria you specify, either by email or through RSS feeds.  This fall Alden Library will be offering a workshop about database alert services for faculty who would like to learn more about what they do and how to use them.  The workshop will be offered twice, on Wednesday, September 17th, and on Thursday, October 2nd, both in Alden 323 from noon to 1 pm.  For more information, please see the workshop announcement at http://www.library.ohiou.edu/workshops/alerts.html.  We hope to see you there!

Twitter and brand performance

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

BusinessWeek has a recent post about How Companies Use Twitter to Bolster Their Brands

A growing number of companies are keeping track of what’s said about their brands on Twitter. Comcast (CMCSA), Dell (DELL), General Motors (GM), H&R Block (HRB), Kodak (EK), and Whole Foods Market (WFMI)
are among a handful of companies haunting Twitter to do everything from
burnish brands to provide customer service. The attention to Twitter
reflects the power of new social media tools in letting consumers shape
public discussion over brands.
