Climate records for DHL and FedEx

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Last quarter, the business cluster students did research on the climate, environmental impact, and efficiency of UPS and FedEx.  This report would have been useful at the time, but I’ll make sure I make a note of the Climate Counts site for future students.

Climate Counts, which scores businesses based on their efforts to review, reduce and report their impacts on the climate, first looked at the consumer shipping industry last year.

All four shippers – DHL, FedEx, U.S. Postal Service and UPS – have increased their scores, though some did better than others.

What kind of person will be the car czar?

Friday, December 12th, 2008

It’s definitely not a job that I would want, and it will be incredibly interesting to see how this situation with the automobile industry pans out.

“Whoever gets this job isn’t going to have the luxury of time to reinvent the car industry,” Laura D’Andrea Tyson, a professor at the Haas School of Business at the University of California and the former head of the national economic council under President Clinton. “He or she is going to have to take a number of approaches to this problem that are already known, that have been discussed endlessly, and force it through. It’s going to take someone with huge stature.”

Tweets From the Chiefs – BusinessWeek

Are you curious how Twitter might be used to promote your business, product, or yourself?  Some well-know CEOs weigh in on this topic.

Microblogging site Twitter is the latest tech tool to enter the
C-suite. Whether they are broadcasting quick company updates, sharing a
personal side of their lives with employees, or networking with other
executives, plenty of CEOs have begun to make tweets part of their
daily routine. And it’s not just the Silicon Valley crowd—chief
executives in marketing, publishing, and retail are also populating the
site.
