Contents

Ohio University Research

The best place to start is OU's Office of Institutional Research. This office has a great deal of info available online right at their website. Contact this office if you need more info or cannot find what you need. At this website you will find items such as:

  • studies & reports about OU faculty, staff, students, depts/colleges or OU itself
  • these would not be records about individual people, but groups (e.g., the avg. salary of all faculty in the Engineering dept)

Faculty Salaries

Alden Library has a listing of current faculty salaries in what is called the "salary book." Ask for it at the 2nd floor Learning Commons Reference Desk. Older salary books are available in the Archives, 5th floor.

Human Resources

Some information may be obtained by contacting the OU Office of Human Resources. For some information to be released a FOIA request may be required.

Historic OU Information

For historical OU information, contact the University Archives on Alden Library's 5th floor. This would be a good place to start for advice on finding information about OU's past. Keep in mind that many University Records are confidential and the privacy rights of individuals may prevent Archives staff from permitting full access.

Ask for indexes & finding aids at the desk during hours the Archives is open. The following files on Ohio University are indexed in hard copy in notebooks housed in the reading room (not available online)

  • OU topical files -- various OU topics, including University buildings
  • OU Biographical Resources -- biography files of some (not complete) Ohio University faculty and staff (may contain newspaper clippings, pamphlets, photographs, etc.)

General Education Research

The U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education in the United States and other nations. This website includes publications, data tables, surveys, fast facts and school search tools. Also see Education Statistics at a Glance, which includes reports such as The Condition of Education, The Digest of Education Statistics, and Projections of Education Statistics. You will be able to find information in these sources by searching documents through their tables of contents, by subject area, and through title only word searches.

The Association for Institutional Research offers a set of resources including data sets, policy studies and publications.

Articles from Education Journals
