Here are some starting points for finding information about a nonprofit organization, or NGO, which can supplement what you find on the NGO's own website. Another place listing resources for NGO research is the InfoTree directory page > general > directories > organizations

Websites

Associations on the Net, from Internet Public Library a directory of associations with short descriptions and links to their websites. The directory is organized by broad subject. Includes and trade associations, cultural and art organizations, political parties and advocacy groups, labor unions, academic societies, and research institutions.

Librarians’ Internet Index Charity & Nonprofit Resources recommended directories of nonprofits that include info about each, as well as websites that offer nonprofit best practices, FAQs, statistics, etc.

Directory of Think Tanks, U Mich Documents Center Conservative and liberal think tanks, international relations think tanks, public policy institutes and organizations.

Give.org BBB Wise Giving Alliance "The Alliance reports on nationally soliciting charitable organizations that are the subject of donor inquiries. These reports include an evaluation of the subject charity in relation to the voluntary BBB charity standards."

GuideStar information about American nonprofit organizations, including operations and finances. This site requires a free registration process to access some of the services. After creating an account, the user will have access to a nonprofit organization's revenues, expenses, balance sheets, and the IRS Form 990. Ohio University Libraries does not have access to the GuideStar Select or Premium services.

Books & Journals

The Chronicle of Philanthropy Search for articles about a nonprofit company or executives from that company TIP: click into this journal in the Academic Search Complete datbase, then click "Search within this publication" and add your search term on the next page.

The following books are located in Alden Library, or you may find them at another OhioLINK library if you are not on the Athens campus. These books are generally considered reference books and may not circulate, though if you check the OhioLINK record you may find that some OhioLINK libraries will lend them through the OhioLINK "Request this Item" process.
