What's this wiki for?

The purpose of the CommWiki is to provide library information specific to the field of communications and mass media, including recommended library and non-library resources, mini-research guides and answers to frequently asked communications research questions.

Use the CommWiki to find articles about

  • reference books and other library materials
  • research databases the library subscribes to
  • websites & other information search tools
  • people who can help you with research

Some of the recommended resources in this wiki are freely available on the Internet, while other items such as library research databases are only available to current Ohio University students, faculty and staff (OAK id and login required to access). Print items are available through Ohio University Libraries*

* For non-Ohio University users, try your local academic or public library for similar resources.

Who can use the CommWiki?

This wiki primarily serves the students, faculty and staff in the Scripps College of Communication which includes the schools of Journalism, Information and Telecommunication Systems, Communication Studies, Media Arts and Studies and Visual Communication, though anyone interested in Communications research may find this wiki useful.

Why wiki format?

Wiki format enables the creation of a library subject guide that can be quickly and easily updated. Traditional library subject guides have very useful information, but are static in nature and difficult to update. Another advantage of the CommWiki is that it is not only easier to organize & update but searchable. New to Wikis and wondering how they work? Check out this video, Wikis in Plain English from CommonCraft.

Who writes CommWiki articles?

The CommWiki was created by Char Booth and Diana Nichols, librarians at Ohio University with subject expertise in various areas of communication and media studies. The CommWiki is currently maintained by Diana and Jessica Hagman. Please feel free to contact Diana or Jessica with any questions about the content or design of this wiki.
