The library has several good starting points for information on how to cite books, articles and electronic sources when writing. For starters, here are two video tutorials produced by Ohio University Librarians:

Online Citation Resources

The Citation Style Guides page on the library website is a good place to start. Here you will find links to online style guides for APA, Chicago and MLA as well as links to some nifty citation building tools.

The InfoTree directory also lists several websites and online guides about citing sources under the category General > Style Manuals.

Citation Building Tools

Citation Builder Create citations for a limited number of kinds of information sources, and produce citations in APA, CBE, and MLA formats.

Citation Machine Provides "citation building" for several more types of sources (e.g., newspaper articles or online encyclopedias) than Citation Builder. Creates citations in APA, MLA, Chicago style and Turabian.

RefWorks A web-based citation manager offered for FREE to all OU faculty, staff and students. With RefWorks you can:

  • save book and article citations from ALICE or a database
  • organize citations into folders
  • create bibliographies in a number of formats
  • create endnotes or footnotes for research papers

There is an application on Facebook called Cite Me. Put a book title into the search box and a citation in APA, MLA, Harvard, Turabian, or Chicago will be created. Take the next step and search the WorldCat catalog to find the book at the closest library.

Writing Center

Make an appointment at the Writing Center in Alden Library's 2nd floor Learning Commons. Trained and experienced writing tutors will be happy to look over papers and offer writing and citation advice. Walk-in help, same-day in-person appointments or online chat-style appointments.
