Most professional librarians serve as subject bibliographers for one or more academic departments or programs. They work with faculty members to develop the library's collection, promote its use and provide library instruction.

- The editions of Mental Measurements Yearbook do not supersede each other, i.e. each edition primarily includes tests newly published since the last edition. (There are exceptions to the rule.) For that reason, it is often necessary to consult earlier editions of MMY.

- WorldCat is an international database for bibliographic information catalogued by many thousands of libraries. Consists of over 30 million bibliographic records. This is a good database for identifying materials not held in Ohio libraries. You can't borrow directly through this database. If you find materials here that are not available through OhioLINK, use Ohio University's Interlibrary Loan service.

PsycInfo
- Indexes approximately 1300 journals in the field of psychology and related disciplines, such as counseling, social linguistics, medicine , law, physiology, business, psychiatry, and anthropology. Also indexes books, chapters within books, and dissertations.
- Comprehensive and international in scope. Indexes materials in 27 languages from 46 countries. About 11% of the items indexed are not in English.
- Coverage of the current file is 1967 to the present. The current file is updated monthly. There is also a Historic PsycInfo file for 1887-1966.
- Availability: all on-campus computers; from off-campus, Ohio University students, faculty, and staff have access through a login process.
Education Abstracts
- Indexes 400 international English-language periodicals, yearbooks, and book series in the field of education. Includes books reviews from those publications.
- Coverage of the electronic version is 1983 to the present. It is updated monthly.
- There is also a Retrospective Education Index for 1929-1982.
- Availability: all on-campus computers; from off-campus, Ohio University students, faculty, and staff have access through a login process.
ERIC
- Indexes approximately 900 journals in the field of education and related fields. Also indexes the ERIC document collection. ERIC documents often include papers presented at psychological conferences.
- Coverage is 1966 to the present. It is updated monthly.
- Here is an alternate form of ERIC which is also available in Ohio public schools and public libraries.
- Availability: all on-campus computers; from off-campus, Ohio University students, faculty, and staff have access through a login process.
Proquest Digital Dissertations
- Citations of more than 1.5 million doctoral dissertations and 45,000 masters theses from 550 U.S. andernatio intnal institutions.
- Selected masters theses and international dissertations included since 1988.
- Abstracts are included from 1981 to the present. Abstracts of earlier dissertations are on microfilm, on the 1st floor of Alden Library. Abstracts are unavailable for years before 1938.
- Supports the ordering of paper and microform copies of dissertations.
- Provides free access to the electronic texts (PDF files) of all Ohio University dissertations published 1997 forward.
- To view or print Portable Display Files (PDF) on your workstation, you will need a copy of the Adobe Acrobat reader loaded on your computer. The Adobe Acrobat reader is distributed free of charge at the Acrobat home page.

Social Sciences Citation Index
- Indexes articles and citations from over 1700 international journals in all areas of the social sciences. Because the information stored about each article includes the article's cited reference list (often called its bibliography), you can also search the databases for articles that cite a known author or work.
- Coverage of source journals is 1980 to date. Cited references can come from any time period. It is updated weekly.

- Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law
Web site of nonprofit organization devoted to advocacy for the legal rights of those with mental disabilities. The site contains substantial information on the legal aspects of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), aging, disabled children, fair housing, mental health care, and advance directives.
- Internet Mental Health
Web site offering basic information on mental disorders, gathered from sources used by professionals. Includes standard disease descriptions, diagnostic criteria, treatment recommendations. Also includes links to predefined PubMed searches that deliver lists of recently published articles on each disorder.
- Online Dictionary of Mental Health
Not really a dictionary, but a directory of professional and consumer-oriented web sites related to mental health, mental disorders, psychiatry and psychotherapy.
- Student Counseling Virtual Pamphlet Collection
Includes virtual pamplets created by the University of Chicago and other universities for counseling college students. Some of the topics include alcohol and substance abuse; assertiveness; cults; depression; eating disorders; relationships; sexual assault (including date rape); stress; study skills; and time management.
- Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive
Site offering access to survey data on substance abuse and mental health, generated by U.S. goverment agencies and other research institutions. Resources offered include downloadable numeric data sets, reports on survey results, and links to related web sites.
