ChE100 Class Information
From Engineering Wiki
There are several suggested resources that you should look at. Schreve's, and Riegel's are on reserve at the circulation desk on the fourth floor of Alden Library you can check them out for two hours. Kirk-Othmer's is on the second floor of Alden at the Reserves; if you need assistance ask for help at the second floor Reference desk.
Schreve's Chemical Process Industries
Riegel's Handbook of Industrial Chemistry
Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology
In addition to these resources you can find information about the chemical process used to create a chemical product by looking at patents. I suggest you use the three patent databases found at the bottom of the patent research guide. They are easy to use and get decent results.
You may also want to look at SciFinder Scholar which is available on the second floor of the library at two workstations. One note is that we only have one license to Scifinder Scholar and as such it is in high demand. Ask at the second floor reference desk at Alden Library for assistance.
See the Chemical Pricing Information guide.
Information about product use and the market for products can be found in business resources. I would suggest trying Business Source Complete, and Factiva.
Research Tips: Both of these resources use a simple keyword search. So in effect to search them you need to enter in the topics you are interested in. The simplest search would be just for the chemical compound you have been assigned (or feedstock chemicals required for production). If you get more than fifty results you may want to add additional terms; for instance: pricing, supply, source, location. Also you should use synonyms and look at articles that are available to see what additional keywords you might want to use.
