Chemical Pricing Information

To get accurate bulk prices for chemicals now you may need to contact the manufacturers directly. The library has a current copy of the OPD Chemical Buyers Directory in the reference collection. This resources gives information about companies that produce chemicals and has contact information by company in the index in the back of the book.

SciFinder Scholar has restrictions for use check the link for more information. It many times will provide information about companies that produce chemicals. SciFinder Scholar is available in Alden library on the second floor at the stand-alone computers; ask the librarian at the reference desk for help. Once you gain access to the database follow these steps to find suppliers:

  1. Click on the locate icon.
  2. Click on the icon under Locate Substances.
  3. Type in information about your needed substance. Click ok.
  4. Look for the icon shaped like a vial (label: Commercial Sources). Click this to get a list of suppliers via CHEMCATS.

Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology will at times have information about the companies that produce certain chemicals.

Chemical Market Reporter before it became ICIS Chemical Business used to carry a composite pricing list. There is also a chemical compound database provided by ICIS that is available however it only covers 80 chemicals and has dated information for a lot of chemicals(from the 28 August 2006 issue of Chemical Market Reporter) and as such is not accurate. Some of the prices for different chemicals have been updated to reflect pricing trends for 2007 and 2008. For historical prices you can check ICIS Chemical Business or Chemical Market Reporter.
