Finding Books

There are three different "levels" to finding books on a particular topic within our library system here at Ohio University.

ALICE, Ohio University Libraries' online catalog. It contains the catalog of all the OU libraries, including branches and annex. If a book is only available via the Annex or on one of our branch campuses, ALICE gives you the option to order that book for immediate delivery through the "Intercampus/Annex Request" button on the top horizontal menu that appears on each record.

OhioLINK. If you cannot find the item you need in Alden Library, the Library Annex, or one of the libraries on our branch campuses, try the OhioLINK Central Catalog. This Catalog contains the holdings of the 80 institutions that comprise this library consortium.

ILL/Interlibrary Loan. If none of the OhioLINK member libraries can provide you with the item, you can obtain it through InterLibrary Loan or ILL. You can access the ILL electronic form (ILLIAD) from the library homepage. Once you have successfully logged on to the ILLIAD system, you should be able to find forms for various types of items, including books, journal articles and dissertations.

If you have any questions about finding books in any of these three categories, feel free to contact me or come by the 4th floor of Alden Library to the Reference Desk or phone the reference desk at (740) 593-2699.

Remember that books are usually arranged on the shelves next to other books on the same subject, so that once you find a particular book, if you browse through the area you will likely find other useful materials.

Locating Print Collections

Look at the call number range: PN 1992 - PN1998

Film Scripts
Film scripts can be found at PN1997. More recent scripts will be filed alphabetically by title. Older film scripts may be under author. Bibliographic notes in the International Dictionary of Films and Filmmakers are invaluable in tracking down scripts, including those tucked away in relatively obscure periodicals.

Warner Brothers Film Scripts
Film scripts of approximately 300 films produced by Warner Bros. before 1950 are available on microfilm. All of these are housed in the Microforms Department on the first floor of Alden Library. Also searchable by genre and date.
