Population Census

On-Line, Microform, Printed Resources



Initially, on-line searching would be the most direct approach. Alden Library users can search for names at the HeritageQuest in the US Federal Census Schedules 1870-1920 (soon 1930) and search a collection of family and local history books.

Please consult notebooks at the Microform Service Desk for explicit details on library microfilm holdings of Federal population census schedules, specific microform roll numbers, and for information regarding indexes and guides.

Regarding the local region, some population schedules have also been purchased on CD-ROM. For an overview and instructions consult CD-ROM Databases -- 1st floor. Checking ALICE (the Library on-line catalog) under the call number "HA571.5" will list current holdings (mainly Ohio). After selecting a particular year (click call number), the "contents notes" toward bottem of screen will provide details. Ask at First Floor desk for using the CD-ROM (map work-stations).
