Listed below are a number of online databases and printed indexes to scholarly publishing in Geography. Please note: due to copyright and licensing restrictions, most of these sources are only available to members of Ohio University.
Academic Search Complete
- Designed specifically for academic institutions, Academic Search Complete is a good starting point for articles on almost any topic. It contains citations for more than 7,000 popular magazines and scholarly journals, with full-text for a large percentage of them.

GEOBASE
- This is a major database for geography, covering journals, books, monographs, conference proceedings, and reports on geography, geology, and ecology. Coverage begins with 1980 and is updated twice a month. Some earlier years are available in printed volumes, under various titles and subtitles: Geo Abstracts and Geographical Abstracts

Current Geographical Publications
- Reports additions to the American Geographical Society collection of the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee Library. The online version goes back to 1985. Alden Library has printed copies going back to 1939.

LexisNexis Environmental Universe
- An online index to journal articles, government codes and regulations, case law, and other sources on environmental law and policy. It has the following main components:

Population index and Population Index on the Web
- This sources had long been a reference tool to the world's population literature, presenting a bibliographic account of recently published books, journal articles, working papers, and other materials on population topics. Population Index covers 1935-1985 and Population Index on the Web continues to 2000, when it ceased operations.

GeoRef
- Although primarily a database for geology, GeoRef may have some materials related to physical geography. GeoRef indexes journal articles, books, maps and reports to literature in geology covering North America since 1785 and other areas since 1933.
