Most professional librarians serve as subject bibliographers for one or more academic departments or programs. They work with the faculty members to develop the library's collection, promote its use and provide library instruction.

- Jet Propulsion Public Image Archive
This site allows acces to images of the Earth as taken from the Spaceborne Imaging Radar (SIR-C) carried aboard the space shuttle.
- Along Track Scanning Radiometer (ATSR)
Images of the earth as seen through the ATSR-1 and ATSR-2 satellites.
- National Geophysical Data Center
This site offers beautiful maps and computer simulations of the data collected about the Earth for the NGDC

- Books on geology (QE)
- and the last 20 years of bound geology periodicals are located on the 7th floor in the west wing. Pre-1980 bound periodicals are stored in the library annex on Columbus Road. Requests for any issues can be made at the circulation desk on the 4th floor .
- Books on geomorphology (GB) and oceanography (GC)
- are on the 6th floor, at the west end of the center section.
- U.S. Geological Survey publications
- (Superindentent of Documents prefix I.19) are located in the Government Documents Dept., on the 5th floor. The USGS monthly lists of publications are also in the Documents Dept.
- USGS 7.5' topographic quadrangles
- are in the Map Collection (west end of the 1st floor). All USGS geological map series are also in the Map Collection. Print copies
- of currently received periodicals are in the Current Periodicals room (west end of the 2nd floor). Periodicals are shelved alphabetically by title. The library also has access to a large number of electronic journals covering all aspects of geology. Usually only the last few years are available on-line.

- Provides coverage of United States geological literature from 1785 to the present, and of the rest of the world from 1933.
