BOLT: Bobcat Online Library Tutorial

Covers topic selection and other basic principles of searching, along with sections on finding books, articles, and websites. Sections include:

Please note: The content for the BOLT tutorial is no longer being updated, and therefore some components no longer work properly. The Libraries are currently investigating replacements for the BOLT tutorial.

Introduction to ERIC

This tutorial was created to give the beginning researcher a brief overview and the more experienced researcher a refresher on the functions of the ERIC database. Content included in this demonstration:

  1. How to break down a research question into separate subjects
  2. How to use the built in thesaurus to expand your search options
  3. How to combine your individual searches and use limit options
  4. How to locate the full text and email results

Business Database Screencasts

A list of screencasts and videos that demonstrate business databases and other business research tools. Topics include comparing company financials, finding industry information, finding mutual fund resources and more.

internet detectiveInternet Detective

"A free online tutorial designed to help students develop their Internet research skills. The tutorial looks at the critical thinking required when using the Internet for research and offers practical advice on evaluating the quality of web sites." Includes practice exercises and quizzes. Although it comes from a site in the UK, it is universal enough to be very useful for American students.

An online tutorial, from the University of Washington, "for students wanting an introduction to research skills. The tutorial covers the basics, including how to select a topic and develop research questions, as well as how to select, search for, find, and evaluate information sources."

Each section contains review quizzes.
