Introduction
This site is a guide to resources and finding aids about Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America. The guide is arranged in
broad categories as to types of resources, you will need to browse the entire category. This guide is not meant to be comprehensive, but to compliment the Library's regular research tools, provide some search tips, describe local resources, and feature the more
useful Internet resources.
The home page of Ohio University's Latin American Studies Program provides information about
the graduate academic program,
the degree requirements, a list
of core classes, financial aid, application procedures,
a list of faculty, links to the Library
and other research resources, and also lists the monographs in Latin American studies published by Ohio University Press.
Ohio University's "International Focus" site pulls together the full range of University international activities and programs. Note the "International A-Z" listing of links. Amongst the many included are the following three programs:
The Center for International Studies home page which includes information about the Center, events, and a description of the Masters of International Studies Program (MAIA) and the Program's course catalog.

The About the Libraries page has information about
library services, hours, and specific collections and departments.
The Library's "InfoTree" database:

- links library resources such a microform sets, subject guides, etc.
- There are two basic ways to search InfoTree. The InfoTree Home Page is
basically the top level of a subject hierarchy; follow the broad subject links there to get to more specific ones. There is also a word-search option. Here is a ready-made search in InfoTree for the term "Latin America."
"ALICE" is the name for Ohio University's library catalog.
- Consult ALICE to find and
locate specific books, periodical titles, media and electronic titles, etc. in the collections of the Ohio University Libraries. ALICE offers
a variety of ways to search for items.
Popular search engines:
- If you are looking for something specific, you can choose good key words and use general search engines such as Google. Be sure to take advantage of the advanced search features for "Google"
- Here are lists from InfoTree of other search engines:
Another good place to start is to peruse the Latin America "mega sites" where links and resources have already been reviewed and sorted in categories. Here are some comprehensive sites.
- Academic Info
- Academic Info is an annotated subject directory of Internet resources tailored to the university community.
The
Latin American Studies listing should be purused to get a good overview of types of internet resources
available.
-
Latin American Network Information Center (LANIC)
- The homepage of UT-LANIC, "the world's premier electronic gateway to Latin America," is maintained by the Institute of
Latin American Studies (ILAS) at the University of Texas at Austin. This a site you must explore; it contains links to nearly 10,000 Websites on Latin
America. There is a country directory, broad subject directory and links to projects, consortia, library resources, data bases,
