Finding Book Reviews

Databases of Book Reviews

Note: Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Review, Library Journal and Choice are usually not useful review sources. They are trade publications that focus on a book buying market, as opposed to an academic market. The reviews are usually short and concise.

  • Book Review Digest (1983 - Present): Not as thorough as Book Review Index, but can be helpful.

Other Article Databases - Full Text

  • JSTOR: Electronic depository of full-text electronic journals in a variety of disciplines. Journals begin at Volume 1 of particular journal title — may go back as far as 1800’s.

Other Article Databases - Citations with some Full Text

  • PCI: Periodical Contents Index (1770-1995): Along with JSTOR, good database to get contemporary reviews. Has links to Full Text in JSTOR, but does not have FIND A COPY LINKS. You must open another browser and search ALICE for the Periodical.
  • ACADEMIC SEARCH PREMIER: Limit by Document Type: Book Review
