It’s a couple of hours past midnight during finals week. Your brain is about to short-circuit, your eyelids are heavy, and your deadlines are only getting closer. You’re hungry and tired. Most of Alden Library’s floors are closing, but you’re nowhere near done.
You pack your things and migrate down to the second floor’s 24-hour Learning Commons, where you encounter a beautiful vision: smiling librarians, tables of doughnuts, carafes of hot coffee, and reinvigorated students.
If it’s 2 a.m. on Monday, April 28th, you’re probably not hallucinating. “Final Bites,” Alden Library’s tradition offering free doughnuts and coffee to weary students in the second floor Learning Commons, is just one of many finals week events sponsored by the Libraries.
Focus on Finals
The events get started on Wednesday, April 23rd from 8-10 p.m. in the third floor Friends of the Libraries room with “Focus on Finals,” a facilitated study session featuring the 25 minute concentrated work periods of the “pomodoro technique.” Students can plan on blocking out distractions and getting started on finals tasks; the Libraries will take care of the timing and the coffee.
Has finals week got you feeling nostalgic for the good old days of kindergarten, when your biggest challenge was staying inside the lines? Consider entering the Libraries’ Coloring Contest. From Sunday, April 27th to Tuesday, April 29th, students are invited to grab crayons and coloring sheets, de-stress, and post their creations to @AldenLibrary on Twitter or Instagram. The librarians will select their favorites on Tuesday at 9 p.m. and award the artists certificates for free coffee.
Twitter Trivia Contest
If you need a break from finals— or a fresh cup of coffee — follow @AldenLibrary on Twitter and participate in the Libraries’ Twitter Trivia Contest on Tuesday, April 29th from 7-9 p.m. Your knowledge of OHIO factoids could win you Twitter fame and a coffee certificate.
Happy finals week!
