Friends of the Libraries
The Friends’ of the Libraries organization was formed in 1979 to help fill the gap between external funding and the real cost of providing high-quality collections and services to the university community and beyond.
The Friends host three book sales per year on the 4th floor of Alden Library and publish Gatherings, the Friends’ semi-annual magazine about activities in University Libraries. Since 1980, the Friends have made an annual gift to Alden Library. In 1999, the Friends established an endowment fund to recognize the important role student assistants have in the Libraries’ operation. The scholarships are awarded each April after a committee selects essays from a pre-determined topic. The Friends also sponsor one to two public talks, lectures or panels per semester during the academic school year.
With the help of the President, Board, Lifetime members and other members of the Friends of the Library, University Libraries has been able to grow and accommodate the needs of OHIO’s students, faculty, and staff.
As a Friend, members enjoy privileges that include:
- Access to OhioLINK and borrowing rights for more than 20 million volumes in academic libraries across Ohio.
- Borrowing card privileges for materials in Alden Library.
- Interlibrary Loan privileges through ILLiad (contact Interlibrary Loan for account setup).
- A subscription to Gatherings, our Friends’ semipublication about activities within the Library.
