“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
The quote is a bit flowery, but I like to start out with a little class before I recommend National Lampoon’s Vacation! I was thinking about what films embody summer, started searching around and came up with the list below. By the way, all titles listed are available at Alden Library. Of course, I had to go to the city pool after I wrote them all down I was sweating so much! For the most part, they take place during summertime and capture the many aspects of the season. They range from children’s fare to classics, foreign to straight up American blockbusters. This is just a sampling of our wonderful collection. Enjoy!
“For me, the cinema is not a slice of life, but a piece of cake.” Alfred Hitchcock
