2013’s Spring Literary Festival will be April 10th through April 12th. This years featured writer’s include non-fiction writer Diane Ackerman; fiction writers Robert Olen Butler and Bonnie Jo Campbell; and poets Sarah Lindsay and Dean Young. Alden Library carries much of their work, so feel free to check out our Pinterest Board of available books. Each writer has an opportunity to read their work as well as give a talk about writing in general. Athens International Film & Video Festival begins April 12-18, with most films showing at the Athena Cinema. Curious what kinds of films they show? Have a look at our lists of previous festival videos. Armchair traveling has never been easier – you can go from Palestine to Rome, Kenya to Spain, Switzerland to Croatia. Feature films, documentaries, experimental films and a host of competition shows. Quite a few of School of Film students have been accepted and will be exhibiting their work in the festival. Alden Library local, Greg Sigman, Music & Dance librarian, will be performing in Ecoacoustics/Sound/Image Explorations with the School of Music’s NoBrow Music Collective. Lots of environmental films, with a special showing of Chasing Ice as part of Science on Screen Series. FREE TO OHIO UNIVERSITY STUDENTS WHILE TICKETS LAST. ALL COMPETITION SHOWS BEFORE 5PM ARE FREE.
The annual Ohio University Seabury Quinn, Jr. Playwright’s Festival begins Wed., April 17-Saturday April 27. Held each year at the end of the Spring Semester, and represents the culmination of the work of the playwrights in the program. The playwrights are offered the opportunity to get feedback from professionals. This year the visiting artists include playwrights, Kia Cothron, George Brant and Dennis Zacek. FREE and OPEN TO ALL!
